For many cyclists, their bike is their pride and joy, the love of their life, and represents far more to them than just a frame and two wheels.
As such, it’s common (and fun) for people to give nicknames to their bicycles. Some are cute and represent how much they love their bike, others are funny puns on the speed or condition of their ride, and some are just downright cool.
Of course, there are plenty of synonyms for the word bike that you can use when talking about bicycles more generally, but we love to see all the personal names people give their individual bikes.
When we ran a survey to find out what people like to call their bicycles, we were blown away by just how creative cyclists get when choosing a nickname for their bike.
So, to celebrate all the wonderful names people give their beloved bicycles, we’ve made a list of all the funny, cool, and creative nicknames for bicycles.
Bicycle Nicknames
People give their bicycle nicknames for all sorts of reasons. If you have several bikes it can help to distinguish them if they all have cool names, if you’re super proud of your bike and want to celebrate it then giving it a name sets it above the rest, but it’s also just fun to give things nicknames.
Some nicknames can be deeply personal – named after a family member who loved cycling, for example – others can be funny and poke fun at a less-desirable aspect of your bike (such as its weight, rustiness or garish colour).
If you ask us, we think every bike should have a nickname. Whether it’s a folding bike you use to commute to work, a MAMIL-worthy speed demon you enter into all your local time-trial races, or a rusty bike you’ve had in your shed for decades but just don’t have the heart to abandon, it deserves a name which makes it stand out from the rest.
In this piece, we’ll through the many, many ideas our readers have had for nicknames for their bikes, as well as our favourite funny, cool and creative bike nicknames from across the internet.
